Despite heavy rain and severe thunderstorms in the forecast, 139 anglers hung in there for a great time at Bradley’s Kids Fish Fest on Saturday! Those who showed up saw firsthand the weatherman isn’t always right, as the first two hours were great! With heavy rain for about 20 minutes right there in the middle of it all, it cleared up again and we were able to finish the day with just as many smiles as when we started!
13 trophies were awarded to anglers. Kyle May took home the “Biggest Catch Award” trophy for a 3.57lb Catfish he fought to bring in after it broke his fishing rod!
12 trophies were awarded to casting contest participants; 9 trophies went to the top 3 high scores in 3 children’s divisions, and 3 trophies were awarded to adults who took over our 16+ age group that lacked participants.
We got more awareness out there, taught kids how to tie their own knots and fish identification, fish with the game warden, let them see monster Catfish up close and personal, educate them on the importance of conservation while showing them how to tag and release trophy Catfish, and instill a love for the outdoors rain or shine!
Remembering the look of accomplishment on children’s faces as they learn to cast for the first time, and the silent attentiveness I observed as they got up close and personal with monster Catfish, is why I continue to pour my heart into this. It is a lot of work, but these kids make it all worth it!
Thank you to all of our volunteers who worked hard not just on the event day, but in the weeks leading up by raising awareness, handing out flyers, attending classes to become Texas Parks & Wildlife Certified Angler Education Instructors, becoming CPR & First Aid Certified, and doing everything they could to ensure the kids had a safe, educational, and exciting day!
Once again it was awesome to see pictures of Kids Fish Fest grace the front page of the Sunday newspaper!
I wholeheartedly appreciate each and every one of our generous donors who contributed to Texas Trophy Catfish Association to make this event possible! Without the contributions of outside investors, TXTCA simply would not be able to continue our conservation and education efforts in the community and across the great state of Texas.
