Bradley’s Kids Fish Fest is a FREE kids fishing event organized by Texas Trophy Catfish Association. It will be held Saturday, September 22nd from 10am-2pm at Walden Marina on Lake Conroe. While our inaugural Kids Fish Fest was a huge success, we encountered some minor hiccups along the way. Changes have been made to ensure this event is bigger and better than its predecessor. As you know, last Kids Fish Fest we had over 150 children in attendance with their families and we made the front page of the Courier of Montgomery County newspaper.
We will be offering donuts, beginners and advanced fishing lessons, angler safety and etiquette, a casting contest, silent auction, raffle prizes, and trophies. Lunch and drinks will be available for purchase.
We currently have 24 wonderful individuals who have graciously volunteered to help at Kids Fish Fest! 5 are Certified Angler Instructors with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, 4 are CPR & First Aid Certified, 3 are certified by The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as well as the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, and all of them are willing to help with anything and everything we may need that day! With the combined muscles, brains, and skills, there’s nothing we can’t handle!
Sign-in & Waivers:
While the event is free, you will have to sign in upon arrival. This allows us to keep count of everyone in attendance and let us know how fast we are growing and what to prepare for next year. You will also be required to sign a release of liability waiver. As always, parents/guardians are responsible for the children they bring, and we are requesting you sign a waiver stating so. After signing the waiver, every individual will receive a wrist band. Participation will only be permitted if you have this wristband.
The casting contest will take place throughout the day. Using a point system, one angler will be judged at a time by accuracy instead of distance. The winners will battle to the end in a CAST OFF in the event of a tie. There will still be 4 age groups: Ages 5 & Under – Ages 6-10 – Ages 11-15 – Ages 16 & up. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 contestants in each age category at 1:45pm.
Just like last time, there will be a fish weigh-in station. We have a spreadsheet ready to go to ensure no weights are lost. Any fish weighed in over 5 pounds can be evaluated for tagging if the angler chooses to do so. As always, this is a catch and release event. The angler with the largest fish in weight will win the “Biggest Catch Award” trophy. Also, each child who catches their first fish will receive a “First Catch Award” announced after the Casting Contest winners at 1:45pm.
Silent Auction & Raffle:
This is a new one for us. An array of auction items will be displayed where you can browse and make an offer throughout the day. This helps us raise money to pay for Kids Fish Fest and future events. Raffle Tickets will be available for purchase throughout the day as well with the tickets drawn at 1:30pm.
The itinerary is as follows:
We hope you can come out and enjoy this fun-filled day with us. Take the opportunity to get your children out of the house and off their electronics. School, electronics, sleep, school electronics, sleep…let’s get them outside and active and help teach them respect for each other and wildlife as they develop a love for the outdoors.
